एक तरफ Indian investors ने August 2026 में SIP के जरिए record ₹32,297 crore Mutual Funds में invest किया.

दूसरी तरफ उसी महीने 53.82 लाख SIP discontinued हुईं या उनका तय tenure पूरा हुआ.

पहली नजर में ये दोनों numbers एक-दूसरे के बिल्कुल उलट लगते हैं.

अगर SIP investing लगातार बढ़ रही है, तो इतनी बड़ी संख्या में SIP बंद क्यों हो रही हैं?

और आपके लिए इससे भी जरूरी सवाल:

अगर market गिर रहा हो, Small Cap या Mid Cap portfolio red दिख रहा हो, या returns उम्मीद से कम हों—तो क्या अपनी SIP बंद कर देनी चाहिए?

इस सवाल का जवाब headline देखकर नहीं दिया जा सकता. पहले numbers को सही तरीके से समझना जरूरी है.

संक्षिप्त जवाब

सिर्फ market गिरने या short-term returns negative होने के कारण SIP बंद करना जरूरी नहीं है.

August 2026 में 53.82 लाख SIP discontinued या tenure-completed हुईं, लेकिन इसी दौरान 66.40 लाख नई SIP registered हुईं. यानी नई registrations, discontinued/tenure-completed SIPs से लगभग 12.58 लाख ज्यादा थीं.

इसके साथ SIP contribution भी बढ़कर record ₹32,297 crore पहुंच गया.

इसलिए “53.8 लाख SIP बंद” को “53.8 लाख investors ने Mutual Funds छोड़ दिए” समझना सही नहीं होगा.

SIP को Stop, Pause या Continue करने का फैसला market headline के बजाय आपके financial goal, investment horizon, cash flow, risk capacity और fund suitability को देखकर होना चाहिए.


August 2026 SIP Data: Numbers क्या बता रहे हैं?

Association of Mutual Funds in India यानी AMFI के August 2026 data के मुताबिक:

ये numbers एक महत्वपूर्ण बात दिखाते हैं:

SIP ecosystem में churn बढ़ रहा है, लेकिन SIP participation और contribution दोनों अभी भी बहुत बड़े स्तर पर हैं.

AMFI के अनुसार August में SIP contribution ₹32,297 crore रहा, जो July के ₹31,961 crore से भी अधिक था.

नई registrations और discontinued/tenure-completed SIPs के बीच का अंतर भी positive रहा.


क्या 53.8 लाख Investors ने अपनी SIP बंद कर दी?

नहीं.

यह शायद इस पूरे data का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण clarification है.

AMFI का classification है:

“SIPs discontinued / tenure completed.”

इसमें केवल वे SIP शामिल नहीं हैं जिन्हें investors ने market fear के कारण manually बंद किया.

इस number में ऐसी SIP भी शामिल हो सकती हैं जिनका पहले से तय investment tenure पूरा हो गया.

AMFI के methodology note के अनुसार, निर्धारित संख्या में लगातार instalments fail होने वाली SIPs भी applicable SEBI guidelines के तहत ceased/discontinued मानी जा सकती हैं.

इसलिए:

53.82 लाख discontinued/tenure-completed SIP ≠ 53.82 लाख unique investors ने Mutual Funds छोड़ दिए.

एक investor के पास एक से ज्यादा SIP भी हो सकती हैं.

किसी investor ने एक SIP बंद करके दूसरी शुरू की हो सकती है.

किसी का goal पूरा हो सकता है.

किसी SIP का tenure खत्म हो सकता है.

और किसी investor ने genuinely investment रोकने का फैसला भी किया हो सकता है.

इसलिए headline से ज्यादा जरूरी है उसके पीछे की definition समझना.


फिर SIP Discontinuation इतनी तेजी से क्यों बढ़ रही है?

September 21 की Economic Times analysis के अनुसार August में discontinued/matured SIPs की संख्या year-on-year लगभग 31% बढ़ी, जबकि new registrations करीब 20% बढ़ीं.

यह लगातार चौथा महीना था जब discontinued/matured SIPs की growth नई registrations की growth से तेज रही.

यह trend ध्यान देने योग्य है—लेकिन इसका मतलब automatically यह नहीं कि retail investors Mutual Funds से बाहर निकल रहे हैं.

उसी महीने:

66.40 लाख नई SIP registered हुईं.

लगभग 10.02 करोड़ SIP accounts ने contribution किया.

और monthly SIP contribution record ₹32,297 crore रहा.

यानी picture एकतरफा नहीं है.


SIP बंद क्यों होती है?

किसी SIP को बंद करने के पीछे कई अलग-अलग कारण हो सकते हैं.

1. SIP का तय tenure पूरा हो गया

हर SIP हमेशा के लिए नहीं बनाई जाती. कुछ investors fixed period के लिए mandate देते हैं.

Tenure पूरा होने पर वह SIP AMFI data में completed category का हिस्सा हो सकती है.

2. Financial goal पूरा हो गया

मान लीजिए किसी investor ने house down payment, education या किसी दूसरे goal के लिए SIP शुरू की थी.

Goal के करीब पहुंचने पर equity exposure कम करना या SIP रोकना financial planning का हिस्सा हो सकता है.

3. Cash-flow में बदलाव

Job loss, business slowdown, medical expenditure, EMI या किसी दूसरी financial commitment के कारण investor कुछ समय के लिए SIP जारी रखने में असमर्थ हो सकता है.

ऐसे case में permanent stop ही एकमात्र विकल्प नहीं है.

जहां facility उपलब्ध हो, SIP Pause भी consider किया जा सकता है.

4. Portfolio restructuring

कई बार investor एक fund की SIP बंद करके दूसरे fund या asset class में investment शुरू करता है.

ऐसे case में एक SIP discontinued दिखाई देगी, लेकिन investor ने Mutual Funds छोड़ दिए हों—यह जरूरी नहीं.

5. Fund या category अब suitable नहीं रही

Investor का goal, time horizon या risk profile बदल सकता है.

Portfolio में unnecessary overlap भी हो सकता है.

ऐसी situation में SIP और underlying fund की review जरूरी हो सकती है.

6. Market गिरने से डर

यह सबसे emotional reason हो सकता है.

Portfolio लगातार red दिखाई दे तो investor naturally सोच सकता है:

“SIP बंद कर दूं?”

लेकिन इसी point पर SIP के basic purpose को समझना महत्वपूर्ण है.


Market गिरने पर SIP बंद करनी चाहिए?

SIP का एक महत्वपूर्ण उद्देश्य investing को disciplined बनाना है.

AMFI के अनुसार SIP investors को fixed intervals पर invest करने की सुविधा देता है और rupee-cost averaging में मदद कर सकता है, जिससे investor को हर बार market timing करने की जरूरत नहीं पड़ती.

जब NAV कम होती है, समान SIP amount से ज्यादा units खरीदी जा सकती हैं.

जब NAV अधिक होती है, उसी amount से कम units मिलती हैं.

इसी mechanism को broadly rupee-cost averaging कहा जाता है.

लेकिन इसका मतलब यह भी नहीं है कि:

हर SIP हमेशा continue करनी ही चाहिए.

SIP एक investment method है.

वह खराब fund selection को अच्छा नहीं बनाती.

वह unsuitable asset allocation को automatically ठीक नहीं करती.

और वह returns guarantee नहीं करती.

इसलिए सवाल केवल यह नहीं होना चाहिए:

“Market गिरा है—SIP बंद करूं?”

बेहतर सवाल है:

“जिस financial goal और time horizon के लिए मैंने यह investment शुरू की थी, क्या वह आज भी वही है?”

अगर जवाब हां है, तो केवल short-term market volatility के कारण लिया गया emotional decision आपके long-term plan से अलग हो सकता है.

इन तीनों को एक समझना गलत होगा.

ध्यान रखें कि SIP बंद करना और existing Mutual Fund units redeem करना एक ही बात नहीं है.

SIP बंद करने से generally future instalments रुकती हैं.

पहले से खरीदी गई units automatically redeem नहीं होतीं.

Redemption एक अलग transaction है और उस पर applicable exit load और tax implications हो सकते हैं.


किन Situations में SIP Review करना सही हो सकता है?

हर market correction SIP बंद करने का कारण नहीं है.

लेकिन कुछ situations में review genuinely जरूरी हो सकता है:

आपका financial goal बदल गया है

जिस purpose के लिए investment शुरू किया था, वह अब relevant नहीं है या उसकी timeline बदल गई है.

आपका risk profile बदल गया है

हो सकता है आपने aggressive equity allocation तब चुना हो जब goal बहुत दूर था, लेकिन अब goal करीब आ गया हो.

Portfolio में बहुत ज्यादा overlap है

चार अलग-अलग Mutual Funds रखना diversification की guarantee नहीं है.

अगर underlying stocks largely same हैं, तो apparent diversification misleading हो सकती है.

Fund का investment objective बदल गया है

Scheme में material changes होने पर यह देखना जरूरी है कि वह अभी भी आपके portfolio के intended role को पूरा करती है या नहीं.

Cash-flow temporarily कमजोर है

ऐसी स्थिति में उपलब्ध options देखकर Pause और Stop के बीच अंतर समझना उपयोगी हो सकता है.

Goal पूरा होने के करीब है

Long-term goal के लिए accumulated corpus को आखिरी समय तक unnecessarily high equity volatility में रखना हर situation में suitable नहीं होता.


Small Cap या Mid Cap SIP गिर रही हो तो क्या करें?

August 2026 में Small Cap और Mid Cap Mutual Funds में investor interest मजबूत रहा.

लेकिन किसी category में inflows ज्यादा होने का मतलब यह नहीं कि वह हर investor के लिए suitable है.

Small-cap और mid-cap funds में large-cap-oriented portfolios के मुकाबले substantially higher volatility हो सकती है.

इसलिए अगर आपकी Small Cap या Mid Cap SIP negative दिखाई दे रही है, तो सिर्फ recent return देखकर decision लेने के बजाय तीन चीजें देखें:

Goal → Time Horizon → Risk Capacity

August का सबसे interesting takeaway शायद यही है.

एक तरफ SIP discontinuation/tenure completion का number बड़ा है.

दूसरी तरफ contribution भी अब तक के record level पर पहुंच गया.

AMFI data के मुताबिक August 2026 में:

₹32,297 crore SIP contribution आया.

Contributing SIP accounts 10 crore के ऊपर पहुंच गए.

Outstanding SIP accounts लगभग 10.75 crore रहे.

और SIP assets लगभग ₹18.62 lakh crore रहे.

इससे कम-से-कम इतना साफ है कि discontinued/completed SIP figure को अकेले देखकर retail SIP participation की पूरी तस्वीर नहीं समझी जा सकती.


आपकी SIP: Stop, Pause या Continue?

इसका universal answer नहीं है.

Decision लेने से पहले ये पांच सवाल पूछें:

1. मेरी SIP किस financial goal के लिए शुरू हुई थी?

2. उस goal तक कितना समय बाकी है?

3. क्या मेरी income या cash-flow materially बदल गई है?

4. क्या मेरा current fund/category अभी भी मेरे risk profile के अनुरूप है?

5. क्या मैं SIP इसलिए बंद करना चाहता हूं क्योंकि मेरी financial plan बदली है—या केवल इसलिए क्योंकि market गिरा है?

आखिरी सवाल खास तौर पर महत्वपूर्ण है.

Investing में disciplined decision और emotional reaction के बीच फर्क long-term outcome पर बड़ा प्रभाव डाल सकता है.


Frequently Asked Questions

क्या SIP बंद करने से नुकसान होता है?

SIP बंद करने का असर आपकी परिस्थितियों पर निर्भर करता है. Future instalments बंद होने से आपके planned investment और long-term goal पर असर पड़ सकता है. लेकिन unsuitable investment को केवल इसलिए जारी रखना कि वह SIP है, सही approach नहीं है.

SIP बंद करने पर invested पैसा वापस आ जाता है?
